Whittling Chip (for Pocket Knives)

Webelos and Bear Scouts are allowed to carry and use pocket knives during authorized Cub Scout events, but only after earning their Whittling Chip.

These scouts are required to complete Whittling Chip training and make the Pocket Knife Pledge before receiving their Whittling Chip.  The scouts must carry their Whittling Chip Card anytime they are carrying their pocket knife.  No card, no Pocket Knife!

A scout may lose his Whittling Chip by not honoring the Pocket Knife Pledge and using his knife in an unsafe manner.  Any adult who witnesses a scout being unsafe with their pocket knife should correct the behavior and report it to a Scout Leader. A Scout leader or a Scouts parent may take away these permissions at any time if a Scout behavior using a pocket knife is considered to be violent or unsafe.

Be Safe and Have Fun!
