Winter Camping (Cabin) Packing List Suggestions


Clothing
_______  Bandana or Handkerchief *
_______  Down Slippers *
_______  Gloves/Mittens (Warm)
_______  Hat (Knit)
_______  Jacket (Down) - fiber ok in place of down.
_______  Long Underwear (Heavy Weight) - Polypro, not cotton.
_______  Rain Gear - Breathable, no ponchos. Works well to block rain, wind, and serves as an extra layer.
_______  Shirt (Heavy)
_______  Shirt (Long Sleeve) - 2-3, can be used to layer when cold.
_______  Shirt (Short Sleeve, Wicking ) - 2-3 *
_______  Shoes (lightweight) *
_______  Sleeping Clothes - Consider temperature and quality of sleeping bag when deciding what to wear. Clothing should only be worn in sleeping bag, not outside. A sleeping bag liner can also help.
_______  Snow Boots
_______  Socks (Heavy) - 2-3 pair, more if wet or snowy.
_______  Socks (Liner) - Needed if using wool heavy socks. *

_______  Backpack - To hold gear. A duffel bag will work if you are parked near camp.

Spring/Fall Camping Check List


Clothing

Class A Scout uniform
Cool weather coat or Jacket
Knit stocking hat
1 pair gloves (waterproof is best)
1 pair hiking boots (waterproofed)
2 pair thermal underwear (top and bottoms)
4 pair socks (preferable not cotton, wool is best)
3 tee shirts (class B uniform)
2 pair pants
2 long sleeve shirts
fleece or wool sweater
sleeping clothes (sweats are best)
rain gear (rain suit pants and coat are best for cold weather)


Gear
sleeping bag in plastic bag (rated to 25 degree or less)
sleeping pad (compressed foam or egg crate, air mattress are not a good choice) or cot
internal or external main frame backpack.
camel pack/canteen
flash light and or head lamp (extra batteries)
Scout hand book, pen, note book
First aid kit
compass
insect repellent
wrist watch
mess kit
whistle
day pack if no camel pack
toiletries (ie toothbrush, deodorant, toothpaste, bar soap, wet wipes, hand towel, comb)

This list is intended as a guide to help parents with what their scout needs for a Fall or Spring cool weather camping trip. The quantities listed are intended for a three day weekend trip. Longer trips will require additional clothing and or gear.

Weather
Remember to dress in layers and be prepared for all kinds of weather; add warm clothing including sweatshirt, cap and gloves, if the weather is expected to be cold. Check the weather where you will be camping, not where you live. Do not assume it will be the same. The key to an enjoyable camping trip is staying warm.
The key to staying warm is staying dry. The key to staying dry is having the right amount of the proper clothing, packing it in plastic bags inside your pack, and dressing in layers.
