Pack 337's Campfire Heritage

Pack 337's Campfire AshCeremony

Legend has it that in 1907, on Brownsea Island,LORD BADEN-POWELL conducted the first Scout Camp for boys (The picture tothe left is of that first Scout Camp 8/1-8/1907). At the end of that camp, hegave some of the ashes from the camp fire to each of the boys and kept some forhimself. From that campfire back in 1907, that circle of Scouts carried thetradition of always taking a small amount of ashes from past Scouting Campfiresand spreading those ashes into the campfires that would follow. The mainpurpose of these ashes is to share with Scouts far and wide the memories ofpast campfires, and to bring to all Scouts and Scouters the internationalaspect of the world brotherhood of Scouting.

It isamazing to see how great and large the Scouting movement has grown since 1907.It was the hope of the 2011-2012 Bears of Pack 337 (Alex Bauer, Aidan E.Cooper, Nikolai Imler, Jacob Pierce, Michael Stanton, Jacob Waldron, DenLeader: Dale Stanton, and Asst. Den Leader: Eric P. Cooper) that the heritageof Pack 337 would also grow great and large when they started the tradition oftracking Pack 337's campfires at the J.B. Starkey camping trip (January 4-62013). At the J.B. Starkey Campfire on the night of January 4th, the ashes fromthat November's Webelos Crossover, the same weekend's family camp's campfire, and ash from the 1964 Scout Jamboree were joined together to start Pack 337'scampfire heritage tradition. With the 1964 Jamboree's campfire ash, the Pack'sash joined with the hearts and spirit of those Scouts that gathered around thatcampfire at that camp on Brownsea Island, back in 1907. The campfire ash fromthe 1964 Jamboree contained ash from Scouting's first campfire on BrownseaIsland.
